Jamaican June Plum Juice

June plum juice is one of my favourite fruit juices. It has a sweet, tangy taste but still very refreshing, perfect for the hot Jamaican weather.

June Plum

This fruit is called June plum in Jamaica. It is also known all Jew Plum, Golden Apple or Kedondong in other countries.

The June plum fruit has an oval like shape with green skin when the fruit is not fully ripe and golden yellow when it is.

When ripe, the June plum has a sweet tangy taste with a hint of lime just under the skin.

Like most fruits in Jamaica, the June plum is mostly eaten raw.

The fruit can be eaten when it is green or fully ripe.

It is also used to make June plum stew, jam or a refreshing juice like I did in this post.

June Plum Drink

June plum juice is very easy to make. All you need is a few June plums and ingredients you have around the house.

I mostly use ripe June plum to make this drink but had to use green ones for this recipe.

In my opinion, ripe June plums make a better drink because they are sweeter.

So if you can get ripe June plums, use them.

Also, I did not peel the June plums. I saw someone else made June plum drink without peeling the fruits and thought I would try it.

However, you can peel the June plums if you like.

With the skin, the drink is a bit sourer, and the colour is much greener.

How To Make June Plum Juice

Gather all the ingredients and get you a blander and in a few simple steps, you will have your June plum juice.

Step 1: Wash and peel the June plums (don’t peel if you wish to try it with the skin)

Step 2: Remove the seed (at the core) and diced the flesh.

Step 3: Wash, peel and dice the ginger.

Step 4: Add the June plum, ginger and water into a blender and blend until smooth.

Step 5: Then strain into a container, sweeten to taste with sugar.

You can also add lime juice. I leave this out because I am using green June plum, which are already a bit sour.

Health Benefits

This June plum drink not only tastes great and is also full of vitamin C, vitamin A and vitamin K.

It is also rich in calcium, iron and is a great antioxidant.

It has little to no fat or protein, so you don’t have to worry about weight when having June plum.

Ingredients 

  • 5 Large June plums
  • Ginger About the length of your thump
  • 5 cups Water
  • Sugar To taste

Instructions

  • Wash and peel the June plums (don't peel if you wish to try it with the skin).
  • Remove the seed (at the core) and diced the flesh.
  • Wash, peel and dice the ginger.
  • Add the June plum, ginger and water into a blender. (You may have to do two separate batches). Blend until smooth.
  • Then strain into a container, sweeten to taste.
  • Pull to chill. Best server cold!

Notes

You may want to add fresh like juice. As I am using green June plum with the skin, I decided to leave it out.
