What You Need For This Recipe

Here is what you will need to make peanut drops; roasted peanuts, brown sugar, grated fresh ginger, vanilla and cinnamon. I used ground cinnamon here, but you could also use cinnamon leaves or stick.

I like a lot of ginger in my drops because I like its burning sensation from the ginger, so I usually use more ginger then the recipe recommends

How To Make

Put the peanut and the grated ginger to boiled for about 5 minutes. Let the peanut absorb the ginger flavour. If you are using cinnamon stick or leaf, also add it here so that the peanut can soak up that aromatic flavour.

Add the sugar and leave to cook until the liquid became a thick syrup, this will take up to forty to fifty minutes.

Cook on high heat until the liquid start thickening, turn the heat to low to prevent the pot burning.

Once the liquid thickened, you will need to “drop” it and leave to cool for the drops to form.

Traditionally the drops are left to dry on banana tree leaves. There is a charge that you won’t have banana leaves. In the case, use over sheet or aluminium foil. Leave to cool so the drops can form.

  1. Hi I followed this recipe, however the nuts were to soft, and not crunchy.
Do you know What I did wrong?

Hi Dawn, I add the peanut at the end right after you remove the syrup from the heat.

  3. can I do this with any nut as long as they are roasted?

  4. Do these need to be roasted unsalted peanuts. I’m guessing they can’t be with salt or season on? I’m just trying to make sure I buy the right ones. X

    Thank you, Lesa!
In Brazil we have a similar recipe called “pé de moleque” (something like “brat’s foot lol) but it doesn’t use ginger. Some new versions even use condensed milk, which I’m not in favor of.
I’ve made a small batch of Peanut Drops and I love it. The ginger makes all the difference. Thanks again!

    • Hi Renata, thanks for stopping by and trying the recipe and sharing your experience. Ginger do make all the different. thanks for teaching my something about your culture. I may risk it and try the condensed milk and see how i like it.

  6. Raw peanuts work better. You can also add a teaspoon of lemon Juice to highten the flavor.

Hello, thank you for the recipe! Can I replace the brown sugar with equal amounts of honey instead?

I tried this recipe and it didn’t come out as pictured. Wasted 4 cups of peanuts, sugar and ginger. Followed the recipe and it would melt at room temperature, peanuts were soft because they were being cooked in the water for 50 mins. Is something left out of the recipe.
